WATERJET CUTTING

Waterjet Cutting Capabilities

We provide waterjet cutting services for metal plates, including straight and curved profiles, internal cutouts, holes, slots, and irregular shapes. Parts are cut to your drawings, with material thickness, dimensions, and tolerances taken into account before production.

Cutting Size & Thickness

The maximum cutting size depends on the machine's working area, while the available thickness range varies by material. For oversized or thick plates, we confirm whether the required dimensions can be achieved and whether any special handling is needed.

Holes, Slots & Complex Profiles

Waterjet cutting can produce external contours, internal openings, curved sections, and irregular profiles. Small holes, narrow slots, and closely spaced features are limited by kerf width and material thickness. When these features cannot be cut to the required dimensions, we can leave machining allowances for subsequent CNC operations.

Dimensional Tolerances

Waterjet cutting tolerances depend on material thickness, part geometry, and cutting conditions. We check critical dimensions against your drawings and identify any holes, mating features, or other areas that require additional machining rather than relying on the waterjet-cut surface alone.

Cutting Quality & Secondary Machining

At MS Machining, we handle waterjet cutting alongside secondary CNC machining and edge finishing, allowing you to order cut blanks or components with specified machined features. We review the finished-part drawings to determine the appropriate cutting quality, machining allowances, and additional operations before production.

SECONDARY OPERATIONS

Secondary CNC Machining

Our CNC machining services allow waterjet-cut blanks to be finished with features that cannot reliably be achieved by cutting alone. We can mill mounting and mating surfaces, drill and bore holes, and produce internal threads through drilling and tapping.

For components with precision holes, locating features, or critical mating dimensions, machining allowances are planned before cutting. This leaves sufficient material for subsequent finishing rather than relying on the initial cut to achieve the final dimensions.

Waterjet cutting and CNC machining can be included in the same order, reducing the need to transfer unfinished components between separate suppliers.

EDGE FINISHING

Cut Edge Quality & Finishing

We can supply waterjet-cut parts with as-cut edges or additional finishing, depending on their intended use. Cutting quality is selected with consideration for material thickness, edge taper, and visible striations. Structural plates and fabrication blanks may be suitable for use after cutting and deburring, while edges with tighter dimensional or surface requirements may need further machining.

Deburring, chamfering, and grinding can be arranged for specified edges, including those requiring preparation for welding, handling, or assembly.

QUALITY & DELIVERY

Finished-Part Inspection & Delivery

Components are inspected against the agreed drawing specifications at their required stage of completion. For cut blanks, this includes relevant profiles and overall dimensions. Where secondary CNC machining is performed, inspection also covers specified hole dimensions, positions, and machined features.

We can supply parts in their as-cut condition or with the agreed finishing and machining operations completed. Dimensional inspection reports and material certificates are available when specified in the order.

Frequently Asked Questions About Waterjet Cutting

01

When should I choose waterjet cutting instead of laser cutting?

Waterjet cutting is suitable when a heat-affected zone on the cut edge is unacceptable or when the material and thickness make thermal cutting less suitable. Laser cutting may be more economical for certain thinner metal parts. We evaluate the material, thickness, part geometry, edge requirements, and order quantity before recommending a cutting method.

02

Can you waterjet-cut small holes, narrow slots, and sharp internal corners?

These features depend on material thickness, cutting kerf, and the required dimensional accuracy. Very small holes, narrow slots, and sharp internal corners may require adjustments to the cutting profile or additional machining. For holes and features with critical tolerances, we can evaluate waterjet cutting followed by CNC machining.

03

Does waterjet cutting control the thickness and flatness of the finished part?

Waterjet cutting controls the cut profile but does not change the original plate thickness to a specified dimension. Material thickness and flatness depend on the supplied stock and its manufacturing tolerances. If your drawing specifies tight thickness, parallelism, or flatness requirements, we can review whether additional machining is necessary.

04

What determines the cost of custom waterjet cutting?

Pricing depends on the material grade, plate thickness, cutting length, number of piercings, required edge quality, and order quantity. Parts requiring secondary CNC machining, edge finishing, or additional inspection are evaluated with those operations included in the quotation.

05

Can I include several different part designs in one waterjet cutting order?

Yes. You can submit multiple drawings for quotation, with the material, thickness, and quantity identified for each part number. Components using the same material and thickness can be evaluated for combined cutting layouts to improve material utilization. Parts requiring different stock materials or processing conditions may need separate production arrangements.

06

Do you accept individual replacement parts and repeat production orders?

We handle individual replacement components, small batches, and recurring production orders based on customer drawings. For repeat orders, provide the applicable drawing revision and confirm any changes to material, dimensions, or finishing requirements so that the correct specifications are used for the new batch.
